On August 31, 2013, on a quiet street in Long Island, New York, a little boxer / husky puppy was born. She wasn’t just any puppy; she was destined to touch lives in ways unimaginable.
A simple Craigslist post, an urgent plea for a home for a puppy, caught the eye of my wife, Agnieszka. The post was a beacon of hope for this little one, but it also carried an undertone of desperation. The puppy’s fate hung in the balance. If she didn’t find a loving home, she would be surrendered to animal services. And in the vast, unpredictable world of online listings, there was always the looming threat of falling into the wrong hands. Agnieszka, with her innate compassion and love for animals, felt an immediate pull. The thought of this innocent soul facing an uncertain future was unbearable. Without hesitation, she embarked on a three-hour journey, driven by a singular mission: to rescue Zoey.
Zoey, a sprightly 6-week-old pup, quickly became Agnieszka’s soul dog. They shared an unbreakable bond, one that saw them through college graduations, relationships, breakups, and the many ups and downs of life. Zoey was there, a constant, loving presence, as Agnieszka transitioned from one apartment to another, and finally, to our shared home.
But life wasn’t always smooth sailing. At just two years old, Zoey was diagnosed with epilepsy. A condition with no cure, it meant she would be on medication for the rest of her life. But this didn’t dampen her spirit. Zoey remained the goofy, lovable dog that everyone adored. Her antics, her clumsy runs, and her infectious energy always managed to bring a smile to our faces.
When I first met Zoey, I was instantly smitten. She had a way of making even the gloomiest days brighter. Together, the three of us embarked on countless adventures, traveling across the USA. Zoey, with her medical needs, became our inseparable travel companion.
However, life in Texas brought about a change. Engrossed in renovating our house, our adventures took a backseat. Zoey, once the center of our world, now had to contend with the monotony of indoor life. But we realized our mistake and decided to make amends. A special day by the lake was planned for Agnieszka’s birthday, a day for Zoey to bask in the love and attention she so deserved.
But fate had other plans. On that very day, in the early hours of the morning, Zoey had a severe seizure. Despite our best efforts and a rushed trip to the emergency vet, we were faced with the heart-wrenching decision to let her go. On September 22, 2022, Zoey crossed the rainbow bridge, leaving an indelible mark on our hearts.
Her passing was a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment. It made us question the life we were leading, the endless pursuit of money at the cost of our happiness. This introspection led us to YouTube, a platform where we could share our passion and make a difference.
Zoey’s passing also opened our eyes to the pressing issue of pet overpopulation in the USA. It ignited a fire within us to help these innocent souls find loving homes. Today, we channel our grief and love for Zoey into our mission to help other pets.
In many ways, Zoey’s legacy lives on. Through our efforts, her spirit continues to touch lives, reminding us of the profound impact one little dog from Long Island had on our world.
